This fall the BCMSHR WRAPS, in conjunction with LaSada Sporting Clays and Shooting Service, will host a wildflower tour at LaSada located in central Russell County. LaSada is home to hundreds of native wildflowers and grasses and encompasses hundreds of acres of rangeland, CRP, and cropland. The topography of the area is made of gently rolling hills making biodiversity of plants exceptional for a wildflower tour.
This tour will provide the public with a chance to view the native flora of the area. It is great way to learn about the history of the landscape, the benefits of native plants, their relationship to man both past and present, the benefits to wildlife, and also provides a chance to learn which wildflowers can be used in a home landscape; reducing both water consumption and maintenance costs. Included will also be information on attracting particular insects and birds into your yard using native plantings.

This September 26th, we will have local experts guiding and identifying all wildflowers and grasses present on the landscape. The event is come and go from 9 am to noon (last guided tour starts at 11:00am) with drinks, refreshments, and a free lunch provided. There will be handouts on wildflowers, free native wildflower seed to take home, and other literature on plants and even pollinators! The event will take place rain or shine.
More information on the exact location will be posted closer to the event date
Handouts will include the following:
A pocket guide to Central Kansas Wildflowers- Fall Blooming
Native wildflower seed
Water quality information
CoCoRaHS network information
Wildflower poster provided by KDOT
Pollinator and Plant information from the USDA/NRCS Plants Material Center
