What is a Watershed?

A watershed is the area of land which supplies water to a stream and its tributaries by direct runoff and by groundwater contribution.  The following is a diagram from www.watershedactivities.com depicting the land area that contributes a water supply.

Watersheds are diverse, they encompass many landforms, land uses, and natural/artificial structures and barriers.  Each watershed is unique in its composition and contribution to water quality.  The Big Creek Middle Smoky Hill River WRAPS uses these activities below to educate through visualization of watershed components and ways to improve water quality.
